A Week-Long Mahayana Retreat

with Lynn Friedman and Andy Karr, author of Contemplating Reality

Centre Kio-o, from 10 to 16 February 2020

Drinking from the sources of the Middle Way : practising Shakyamuni’s meditation, contemplating Nagarjuna’s FUNDAMENTAL WISDOM OF THE MIDDLE WAY, and investigation the wellspring of wisdom —your own mind.

It was only when the light of Nagarjuna’s wisdom shone on me that I fully realized Dzogchen. - Mipham Rinpoche -

This event is open to those who have a good grounding in meditation and compassion practises as well as a basic understanding of the foundations of Buddhism. The retreat will begin with two days of meditation practice. That will set the ground for a contemplative program and help keep the Middle Way teachings from becoming merely another intellectual exercise.

Andy Karr is a writer, photographer, meditator, and Buddhist teacher. He trained with two of the great founding teachers of Western Buddhism: Shunryu Suzuki Roshi and Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. He is a student of Khenpo Tsültrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche and Tsoknyi Rinpoche and the author of Contemplating Reality, an experiential guide to Buddhist philosophy (Shambhala Publications, 2007) and co-author of The Practice of Contemplative Photography: Seeing the World with Fresh Eyes (Shambhala Publications, 2011).

Lynn Friedman has been a student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche since the mid-1970s and has been teaching shamatha-vipashyana meditation in his tradition for 35 years. Lynn had a long and successful career as a software architect. She now leads meditation retreats, such as datun and the Profound Treasury Retreat, and works with the Chögyam Trungpa Institute at Naropa University on the team managing a project to digitize and transcribe all of the teachings of Trungpa Rinpoche and make them available in an online digital library.
